70th Pre-contest Festival
St. Pancras Church, Euston, London
7 October 2016

The august surroundings of St. Pancras Church, Euston, was the setting for the 70th pre-National Final concert given by Enfield Citadel Band. The cavernous acoustic of the church obscured a little of the detail at times, but guest conductor, Ian Parkhouse, skilfully blended his forces to bring out all the salient features of each item. To a mixed audience of local Salvationists and visitors from elsewhere, Bandmaster Parkhouse led the band in the opening item, the first performance of Tom Davoren's Living Power. Specially written for the occasion, this proved to be a brief, but sparkling tour-de-force that I am sure will find it way into the regular repertoire.
