It's all about that bass for Les

Les Neish has had a busy Summer so far with two highly successful Summer Music courses in Switzerland and Northern Ireland.

First stop was the beautiful setting of Samedan, only a few miles from St. Moritz.  Les joined up with Phillip Cobb from the LSO and other top class performers including trumpeter Adam Rapa, Wilfried Brandstötter from Mnozil Brass, euphonium soloist Thomas Rüedi and Prof. Matthias Höfs of German Brass.  The week consisted of one to one tuition, ensemble playing and concerts every evening.  This course is certainly special with many of the players given the freedom to have a lesson with any of the tutors and take trips up into the mountains to practice, perform and enjoy the incredible scenery.

Next up was Fermanagh / Tyrone Summer School.  Into it’s fifth year the course has really become the place to be in Northern Ireland.  Tutors from the Leyland Band were joined by Tenor Horn maestro Owen Farr and special guest, multi-instrumentalist, Paul Duffy.  The three day course was packed with rehearsals, sectionals, a tutor recital and a BBQ.  There was also ‘plenty of craic’ as they would say in Northern Ireland.  This all culminated in a very well attended end of course concert in Enniskillen.  A huge thanks to Stephen Crooks and all involved in making this event possible.
