Gresswell teams up with GUS

One of the banding world's finest exponents of the tuba has been lending his experience to benefit GUS' 'Bass End'.

Yamaha Neo Performing artist, Simon Gresswell, recently spent an enjoyable day working with Midlands Area champion and reigning All England International Masters champion; the Virtuosi GUS Band.

The former Black Dyke, Grimethorpe, B&R, and YBS BBb tuba star was invited to work with the bass section of the Northampton-based band, to share his 30+ years of experience, to help even further strengthen the already solid foundation that the Band is fortunate enough to have.

Virtuosi GUS Band spokesman, Tony Whittingham, told BBW:  “Working with Simon was simply fantastic.  Soaking up his plethora of hints and tips and taking on board his feedback was a delight; and will vastly improve us as individual players, but most importantly, as a section.”

He continued:  “As a band, we have an extremely strong work ethic, and we never rest on our laurels.  So even though we are currently enjoying the most successful period the Band has seen in recent times, which has seen us work our way into the top 10 of the world rankings, we are continuing to work hard and are striving to improve further.”

Tony concluded:  “We really hope to work with Simon again in future; and our sincere thanks go to Yamaha for their help and support in making this possible.

Simon added: "It was an honour to be asked to work with a team of such high calibre musicians.  They are a very hard-working team who were so willing to accept feedback and take on new approaches.  A very rewarding day indeed."

The new improved bass section (along with the rest of the Band!) can next be heard on Saturday 23rd April at Kettering Salvation Army Hall, at Edward Gregson’s 70th birthday concert.  For details/tickets click here.
