President's Own & Royal Air Force for Davoren

Following the premiere of his new work for brass band, Divinity of Hell with Fairey Band at the RNCM Festival, Welsh composer, Tom Davoren, flew to Washington DC for a performance with the famous President’s Own United States Marines Band.

The Central Band of the Royal Air Force and Brass Band of Battle Creek originally commissioned Tom’s piece, Ascension, for soloists Steven Mead, Ben Godfrey and Christ Jaudes. ‘The President’s Own’ gave the American premiere of the wind orchestra work with its star euphonium and trumpet soloists, Staff Sergeant Hiram Diaz and Gunnery Sergeant Amy McCabe, in a concert entitled Childhood Dreams, which featured music by John Williams, Percy Grainger, David Maslanka and the young Welsh composer.

On 3 march, Ascension will be performed once again, this time by the Central Band of the Royal Air Force featuring soloists Philip Cobb (London Symphony Orchestra), and Grant Jameson (Royal Welsh College of Music and Flowers band). The concert will take place in the Dora Stoutzker hall of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama at 7.30pm. Follow this link for ticket information.
