European Composer Success

Congratulations to Gauthier Dupertuis on winning the 9th European Composer Competition. The talented 26 year old Swiss composer won with his piece, 'Magdalena', inspired by the French artist Francois Auguster Biard’s work, 'Magdalena Bay'. Adjudicator Edward Gregson, along with other panel members Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen and Vaida Striaupaite-Beinariene, described the piece as having "a real spark of originality and quality". There was also a monetary award of 3,500 Euros for first place, which was added to with a further 500 Euro thanks to Gauthier also winning the 'Band Prize' as voted for by members of Cory.

22 year old English composer Jack Ledger-Dowse took second place and a prize of 1500 Euros for his work 'Ascension', with the third prize of 1000 Euros plus the Audience Prize of 500 Euros going to 20 year old Lennert Van Laenen of Belgium for his piece ‘Red Planet’. Commenting on his success Gauthier stated, “I'm thrilled to have won. I really enjoyed writing the piece and exploring the soundscape of a brass band. It has really opened a new opportunity for me which I would like to explore further.”
