Youth Brass in Concert is back!

The trustees of the Brass in Concert Championship have announced the return of the Youth Brass in Concert Championship, which will take place at the iconic Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead on Sunday 17 November 2024. For the first time since 2021, eight of the UK’s leading youth bands will take to the Sage 1 stage to compete for the prestigious title of Youth Brass in Concert Champions. The field of bands is made up of competitors from past events, with additional invitations extended to bands which have placed highly at Brass Bands England’s Youth Champs, using the results of their 2023 event.

Commenting on the return of the youth competition element of the festival, Brass in Concert CEO, Nigel Stevens, explained, “After trialling the return of youth elements to the festival post-Covid through our Aspire programme, we now see that the time is right to bring the youth competition back to the event. The 2024 festival will see more youth organisations than ever take part at Brass in Concert and we’re thrilled with the line-up of bands that have accepted the invitation to attend. It was always the intention of the board of trustees for this event to return to the youth brass banding calendar in the UK, and we can’t wait to celebrate the creative output that these performances will deliver.”

Competing bands are:

·         Elland Youth Band

·         Houghton Area Youth Brass Band

·         Lancashire Youth Brass Band

·         Lions Youth Band

·         Macclesfield Youth Brass Band

·         Seindorf Beaumaris Youth Band

·         Wardle Academy

·         Youth Brass 2000

Tickets for the contest will go on sale on Wednesday 24 July and will be available to purchase via the Glasshouse International Centre for Music’s website. More information regarding the event, including the order of play and performance times, will be released prior to the on-sale date. All eight performances will also be recorded by World of Brass to be put onto their wobplay platform post-event. Brass in Concert would like to express their thanks to Banks Group, Yamaha, and World of Brass for their sponsorship of the festival, and to Brass Bands England for their support in organising the event.
