NYBBS Easter Course Begins

Sixty young brass instrumentalists and percussionists descended on Strathallan School in Perthshire today (9th April) to take part in the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland’s (NYBBS) four-day Easter residential course.

Musical directors Ian Porthouse, John Boax and Alan Fernie are in attendance to rehearse the players from the NYBBS Reserve and Senior bands for their end-of-course concert in the school theatre on Friday at 2pm. Repertoire will include the march ‘Castell Coch’ (TJ Powell), Paul Lovatt Cooper’s ‘Fire in the Blood’, ‘Sleep’ (Eric Whitacre arr. Sandy Smith), ‘Land of The Long White Cloud’ (Philip Sparke) and ‘Calon y Ddraig / The Heart of the Dragon’ (Matthew Hall).

During the week Alan Fernie and John Boax will be organising a young composers’ competition and on Thursday evening the traditional ‘NYBBS Got Talent!’ show will turn the spotlight on the young players’ other performing skills.

NYBBS is supported by Creative Scotland and Polkemmet Embroidery.
