King’s Award for Brighouse

Brighouse and Rastrick took to the stage at the 149th event in its massed band series, at Huddersfield Town Hall with friends the Hepworth Band, and the combined voices of the Colne Valley Male Voice Choir, Gledholt Male Voice Choir, and the New Mill Male Voice Choir. The concert was made extra special as the band was presented with the King's Award for Voluntary Service by the King's representative, the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire. The band was quick to express its pride and gratitude for the award stating, “We're so proud to have been granted this incredible honour. The highest award in the United Kingdom for an organisation, equivalent to an MBE. This isn't just for the current band, this is for past members, conductors, volunteers, and supporters throughout our long history. We couldn't have achieved this without the efforts of too many people to mention! Thank you!”

In addition to this huge accolade the concert also provided Brighouse with the opportunity to celebrate the amazing work and commitment Sheridan Fryer has offered B&R for decades, as he now retires from his role as librarian. Commenting on social media a spokesperson for the band stated, “Thank you for everything Sheridan, our new Honorary Vice President!”
