Faireys to Perform Pictures in Perth

One of England’s finest brass bands is heading north of the border. The KNDS Fairey Band is bringing its latest audio-visual project to the prestigious Perth Festival of the Arts in June.

Under the baton of Scottish-born guest conductor and Professor of Conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music, Mark Heron, the band will perform Mussorgsky’s ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’, transcribed for brass by Elgar Howarth. As part of the same concert at Perth Concert Hall on 1 June, the band’s principal cornet, Dundee-born Iain Culross, will perform Alexander Arutunian’s virtuosic and energetic ‘Trumpet Concerto’.

The band’s performance of ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ will be complemented by the European premiere screening of a stunning film by USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles, California, set across three screens, taking the audience on an immersive journey, reimagining and bringing to life the pictures that inspired one of Mussorgsky’s most popular works.

Tickets for this cinematic / brass band experience will be on sale from tomorrow (28 March).
