New Solo Trombone at Grimethorpe

Grimethorpe Colliery Band has appointed Rob Wilshaw as the band’s new solo trombone player. Rob has already performed his first engagement with the band at the Grimsby Auditorium and will have his contest debut later in the year at the Yorkshire Regional Championships in Huddersfield.

Rob began his playing in Stoke-on-Trent with Trentham Brass before taking up a place to study at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He enjoyed time at Foresters Brass and Foden's whilst studying before joining Flowers. Rob has performed all over the world, including Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Germany, New Zealand, France, Iceland and Norway.

Commenting on his new position Rob said, “Grimethorpe is arguably the world's most famous brass band and to be able to add my name to this prestigious organisation is a huge thrill. I'm looking forward to many years working alongside the very best in the business."

In a statement on social media the band’s MD Steve Phillips commented, “We’re thrilled to be able to welcome Rob to the band as a fantastic musician with great experience of elite level banding. He’s fitted seamlessly into a very strong trombone section and has showed his class during our recent concerts.”
