40th Celebrations for Friary

Friary Brass recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary with a packed Concert at Trinity Methodist Church in Woking. Music ranged from popular classics like William Himes' 'Procession to Covenant' and Darrol Barry's 'A Salford Sinfonietta' to pop hits such as Lionel Ritchie’s ‘All Night Long’, which enabled the crowd to enjoy the rare sounds of four mellophoniums. The concert also featured Brighouse & Rastrick’s Tom Smith who delighted with virtuosic solos and duets alongside members from the band.

Former MD Chris King returned to conduct the band, alongside current MD Nigel Taken, and was presented with a glass plaque recognising his outstanding contribution towards the band's success. Commenting on the evening a spokesperson for the band stated, “What a night we had celebrating our 40th birthday! Thank you to everyone who came to the concert - we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Was great to be joined by Tom Smith who was on excellent form! Here’s to the next 40 years!”
