Proud Brighouse play to six million

In November 1977, the Brighouse and Rastrick Band reached number 2 in the UK Singles Chart with its recording of The Floral Dance. With support from legendary broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan, the band held its position in the charts for nine weeks, only surpassed at the time by Mull of Kintyre - the first UK single to sell more than two million copies, and third best selling UK single of all time.

Brighouse and Rastrick Band press statement:

Earlier this week, the Brighouse and Rastrick Band were honoured to be invited to perform in central London, live on BBC One’s ‘The One Show’ which was seen by 6 million viewers, to pay tribute to Sir Terry Wogan. Under the baton of Derek Broadbent, the band brought the show to a close performing The Floral Dance.

Spokesperson Ryan Watkins commented: "We got the rather unexpected call on the Sunday afternoon and were asked if we could perform.

Even at such short notice the players responded brilliantly and as many as possible headed to London by car, bus and train the next afternoon.

Upon arrival the band went through extensive camera and light checks, before being shuffled into the studio for a quick dose of make up!

The band is extremely proud to have paid tribute to Sir Terry Wogan. He gave the band the opportunity for stardom back in 1977 and we remain successful to this day because of him."
