Kirkintilloch takes Top Spot in Troon
Well done to The Kirkintilloch Band on winning the West of Scotland Entertainment Contest in fine style. The first section band beat two championship outfits to take the top prize in the Walker Halls, Troon.
The band’s winning programme opened up with ‘Four Minute Mile’, composed by Judith Bingham, followed with a quintet for two baritones and three trombones, entitled ‘Emendemus in Melius’ (William Byrd). ‘Get Happy’ and ‘Over the Rainbow’ from the ‘Judy Garland Suite’ (arr. Andy Austin) came next before a rendition of Morten Lauridsen’s ‘O Magnum Mysterium’. ‘Phoenix’ from ‘War of the Worlds’ by Peter Graham brought the programme to a rousing conclusion.
