Brighouse Soundtrack nominated for FOCAL Award

'Echoes of the North: Four Chapters in Time', an evocative silent film accompanied by an original brass band score performed by British Open Champions, Brighouse & Rastrick Band, has been shortlisted for a prestigious FOCAL International Award. The 20th FOCAL International Awards celebrate the very best use of archival footage across the creative and cultural industries, with categories for use in advertising or branded content, arts & entertainment production, cinematic features, music production and more.

'Echoes of the North: Four Chapters in Time', brings together hundreds of archive clips from the 1890s to the 1920s and is nominated in the 'Best Use of Footage in a History Production' category. Audiences are transported down the highways and byways of northern life in the early twentieth century - its industries, its wartime and festivals, holidays, family excursions, and huge, city-wide occasions. The film consists of four impressionistic, flowing chapters, each structured around a thematic idea: Chapter One: Rebuild, focuses on the industrial north and rebuilding of a nation after WWI, a period of great change in working life. Chapter Two: Recharge, reflects the human desire to escape the grime and industry to reconnect with the land, sea, and nature. Chapter Three: Remembrance, remembers the fallen of WWI, their bravery and sacrifice for their nation. Chapter Four: Rejoice, sings of hope and joy, as people celebrate together as couples, families and communities.

The production is set to new music for brass band, composed by Neil Brand and performed in its premiere performance (and audio recording) by Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band. A spokesperson for the band stated, “We are incredibly happy to announce that the film we performed the soundtrack for, Echoes of the North, has been nominated for a FOCAL Award in the category Best Use of Footage in a History Production. A massive thank you to composer Neil Brand and conductor Ben Palmer, this was an amazing project to be a part of, and one we are very proud of indeed!”

The 2023 Awards Gala Evening will be held at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London on Thursday 15th June.
