Quatre Impressions for Belgian Nationals

VLAMO has announced the adjudicating panels and set test pieces for the 2023 Belgian National Championships. The event will take place on the weekend of November 25th & 26th at CC Zwaneberg in Heist-op-den-Berg.

The set work for the Championship Division is 'Sinfonietta No. 2 — Quatre Impressions' by Pierre-Antoine Savoyat. The piece pays tribute to the French impressionist music of the 20th century with the four-movement work evoking an impressionist view of a journey through different countries as if in a child's dream. It received its premiere from Hauts de France at the 2022 French National Championships and was performed again by them at the 2022 European Championships in Birmingham.

'Afterlife' by Belgian composer Stijn Aertgeerts will be performed in the First Division, whilst the Second Division bands will be required to perform 'Sinfonietta No. 1' by Marc Jeanbourquin. The popular 'Beecher Variations' by Stephen Bulla will test the bands in the Third Division. There will also be an open section introduced that will allow performers to choose any own-choice work.

The adjudication panel for the event comprises: Isabelle Ruf-Weber (Switzerland), Joop van Dijk Joop van Dijk (Netherlands) and Steven Mead (UK).
