Woodward retires as Chairperson

Shirley Woodward, who has given 23 years of outstanding service to the brass band movement, has decided to retire from her role as Chairperson of the North West Regional Committee. A presentation was made to Shirley, by Peter Bates on behalf of the Regional Committee, to honour her incredible dedication and commitment.

Shirley first volunteered as an observer representing the North West Area Brass Bands Association in 1993, and was co-opted as a Committee Member in 1995. She later became a full member and finally Chairperson, and over 30 years worked tirelessly for bands at all levels at countless events. As Chairperson she has also been an outstanding advocate for the brass band movement and played a leading role in the success of the Buxton Brass Band Festival, as well as being a trustee of Brass Bands England.

A spokesperson for the North West Regional Committee paid tribute stating, “Throughout her service to the Regional organisation, Shirley has always placed the interests of its 70 plus bands at the forefront of her work. Her insight, professionalism and sheer enthusiasm for brass banding has inspired everyone who has worked with her. Shirley will be sadly missed by all of us on the Regional Committee, but we are delighted that she will continue at NWABBA events in her role as General Secretary.”
