NYBBS Showcase

Following three days of rehearsals and sectional practice, the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland delivered a fantastic show this afternoon (Friday 14th April). The concert, a culmination of their Easter course at Strathallan, was held in the school’s theatre, under the direction of talented MD Ian Porthouse. The programme included challenging and popular works such as, ‘Funky Brass’, ‘Partita for Band’, ‘American Barndance’ and a Judy Garland Suite. ‘Cry of the Celts was the featured item in the second half and really showed the band off to its fullest, not least joint Principal Cornets Ruaridh Prentice and Ryan Borthwick, who were superb throughout.

Carrie Boax, president of the Scottish Brass Band Association and course director, said: “It’s been a fantastic week and a very exciting rollercoaster of a final day, not only with rehearsals ahead of the concert, but spending time in discussions with staff, organisations and partners about future plans for NYBBS in the wake of the latest funding from Creative Scotland. I would like to thank our amazing team of pastoral staff, the SBBA volunteers who have helped facilitate the course this week, and the parents and carers who are unfailing in their support and encouragement for the amazing young people who make up NYBBS.”
