‘Onyx 30’
Acclaimed chamber ensemble, Onyx Brass begins its 30th anniversary celebrations by performing a world premiere at the Music of Our Time event. Music of Our Time is a celebration of new music including works for choir, brass quintet and organ. This vibrant concert on 21st March will showcase 8 pieces, 6 of which are premiere performances, including JAM Commissions from Mark-Anthony Turnage, Tara Creme, Daniel Saleeb and works by five successful submitters to JAM's Call for Music 2022: Simon Beattie, Kerensa Briggs, David Knotts, James Mitchell and Pia Rose Scattergood.
The concert features the first performance of Mark-Anthony Turnage's ‘Onyx 30’, co-commissioned by the leading arts organisation JAM (John Armitage Memorial Fund), which promotes and commissions new works and creativity in the wider musical world, and the exceptional Onyx Brass. 'Onyx 30' is a brass quintet written in 4 movements: Fanfare 1, Chorale, Fanfare 2 and Blues. The work was recorded by Onyx Brass in early January as part of a project for NMC Recordings that includes Onyx new commissions by Mark-Anthony Turnage, Errollyn Wallen, Bobbie-Jane Gardner, Roxanna Panufnik, Yshani Perinpanayagam, Simon Dobson, Emily Hall and Charlotte Harding.
