National Win for Eikanger

Congratulations to Eikanger Bjorsvik Musikklag on winning the Elite Division of the Norwegian National Championships. The event took place over two days in Bergen, with ten bands competing for the Elite Title and a further sixty-six bands performing for lower division honours.

Eikanger, under the skilled musical leadership of MD Florent Didier impressed in both parts of the contest. Adjudicators Bert van Thienen, Froydis Ree Wekre and Oliver Waespi awarded the band 96 points for their superb performance of Edward Gregson's 'The World Rejoicing' in the set-work portion of the event, the only category that is subject to closed adjudication. Reigning champions Stavanger Brass were placed a point behind with a further two-point margin dividing them and third placed Manger Musikklag. The scores were even higher in the own choice category with judges Steven Mead, Uwe Koller and Arild Remmereit awarding 98 points to Eikanger who performed Simon Dobson’s ‘Horror Show’. The places were reversed for runner-up Manger Musikklag and David King’s performance of Oliver Waespi’s ‘Other Lives’ and Allan Withington’s reading of ‘A Gabrieli Fantasy’ by Bert Appermont with third placed Stavanger Brass. Eikanger’s win across both elements was convincing and well deserving of the overall title. Stavanger Brass pipped Manger Musiklaag to the runner-up spot by the narrowest margin of half a point. Eikanger will now have the opportunity to represent Norway at the 2024 European Championships in Palanga.

Congratulations are also owed to Oslo Brass, Sandefjord Brass Symposium, Bjorvika Brass Band, Gjovik Bybrass and Brumunddal Brass winners of their respective divisions. Full results are below:
