SBBA Workshops

A Learning Festival will follow completion of business at the Scottish Brass Band Association’s annual general meeting on Sunday 29 January.

The four workshops will be:

11am Musical director Stuart Black introducing delegates to the Messanoic Method of conducting. This technique is designed to help ensembles develop a sense of togetherness in the way they respond to the music they see in front of them.

12noon A performance masterclass by award-winning solo euphonium with the cooperation band, Chris Flynn.

1.45pm An insight into Gift Aid by bander and financial expert Kelda McMichael and how it can be of benefit to the brass band movement.

2.50pm Nicholas Garman (pictured), secretary of the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators, talking about the performance assessment criteria used in brass band adjudication. The session will include practical exercises for delegates to write their own assessments of a couple of band performances for discussion.

During lunch, from 1pm to 1.45pm, attendees will be entertained by an ensemble from The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. The AGM starts at 10am and will be held at Falkirk Stadium. Band secretaries are reminded to get in touch with SBBA secretary Tom Allan on sbbasecretary@gmail.com to let him know as soon as possible who their representatives will be at the meeting, if they haven’t already done so.
