Brisbane win in Queensland
The Queensland Brass Band Championship took place at the Empire Theatre in Toowoomba last weekend. The event coincided with the centenary celebrations of the Toowoomba Municipal Band and the city's annual Carnival of Flowers. Brisbane Excelsior Brass Band was victorious and retained the Championship title. Brisbane Excelsior impressed adjudicator Professor Rob McWilliams with commanding performances of the set work, 'Kensington Concerto' by Eric Ball, the Shipley Douglas march, 'Mephistopheles' and the band’s own-choice test-piece: 'Between the Moon and Mexico' by Philip Sparke.
Congratulations are also extended to Brisbane Brass 2, Sunshine Brass and Brisbane Brass 3 who were winners of their respective sections. There were victories for Brisbane Brass, Windsor Brass, Bayside Brass and Brisbane Brass3 in the Street March competition. Full results are below.
