Brass Tribute to Scotland’s Miners

This year’s Glasgow Cathedral Festival will come to a resounding close on Saturday evening when the cooperation band, Renfrew Burgh Band and the world-renowned brass ensemble The Wallace Collection combine to perform ‘De Profundis’, a large-scale composition in which the audience will venture deep into Scotland’s coal-mining heritage in an immersive work of epic proportions.

Set in the breathtaking surroundings of Glasgow’s medieval cathedral at night, this unique event, which starts at 9pm, draws together the massed bands with narrators and atmospheric electronics to fill the murky gloom in an awe-inspiring, powerful tribute to the lives and music of Scottish miners.

A spokesperson for the bands commented: “This event is like no other brass band performance you will have heard with players from the bands scattered around the magnificent cathedral and the audience encouraged to move around the building during the performance to take in different sights and sounds.”

Glasgow Cathedral Festival is a celebration of art, music, history and culture, based in the city’s oldest building. The programme of world-class concerts runs alongside a variety of free events, including guided tours of the cathedral and its surroundings.
