Another boost at Wantage.

It’s been a busy for Wantage, appointing new members throughout to their championship section band to ensure the band is full and ready for forthcoming engagements. The most recent signings to the band have been James Harris (EEb Bass) and Ed Tyler (3rd Cornet). A spokesperson for the band stated, “It’s great to welcome these players along to the band. Both are very talented players and it’s great to see the band getting back to full strength.”

James is no stranger to the band having deputised on bass trombone on several occasions before but now he takes up a permanent position in the band on EEb Bass. James previously played bass trombone with Flowers Band from 2017 to 2021. Before that he enjoyed his time with Leicestershire based Foresters and Enderby. Having completed his PHD, he has returned to Oxford and the band are only too pleased to welcome him.

Ed is at sixth form in Newbury and has played trumpet since a young age. In fact, it was only a few months ago that he received a cornet as a birthday present. His teacher, Lauren Chinn, introduced him to the band and Professional MD Paul Holland was immediately impressed quick to appoint him in the band’s vacant third cornet seat.

The band have a couple of engagements before appearing at Wychavon and Leicestershire Contests in the next couple of months. They are still actively looking for a back row cornet and BBb Bass. Enquiries should be made by email to samwynemusic@gmail.com or by messaging one of the bands chosen social media channels.
