Cory Impresses in South Korea

The Cory Band is extending its global appeal on their visit to South Korea. It’s understood that this is the first ever visit of a band to South Korea: arriving in Jeju on 6th August, the band has performed four concerts in five days as part of the renowned International Wind Ensemble Festival. In addition to enjoying the wonderful local food and hospitality provided for them in Jeju, concert audiences have proved to be even warmer in their reception of the World’s number 1 band than the weather.

Unfortunately, MD Philip Harper was unable to make the trip due to a positive Covid-19 test just 24 hours before flying from Heathrow airport, but the band has been in sparkling form under the direction of resident conductor Nigel Seaman. Philip now joins them on their second leg as they travel to the capital, Seoul. Here the band will perform twice, including an exciting collaboration with the Korean based Artenium Brass Band and Musical Director Sung-Hyun Yoon.

Speaking about the trip, Cory spokesperson Neil Blockley said: "We originally agreed to perform in Jeju 2020 thanks to their artistic director at the time and fellow Besson artist Steven Mead. We are really grateful that the invitation has remained open despite the turbulent two years that we have all faced. Making arrangements for a tour such as this is a massive undertaking. However, the ongoing global impact of Covid still provides some uncertainty so the ambition of the organisers in Korea should be applauded."

In addition to the Korean support, Cory has thanked the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and Celtic English Academy who are headline tour sponsorships.
