Durham University Composition Competition

Durham University Brass Band has recently launched our annual composition competition for university students and recent graduates. As with previous years, this is a wonderful opportunity for students to compose a piece with a chance of £100 prize money plus publication and subsequent royalties, alongside their piece being premiered by Durham University Brass Band at an upcoming concert. The event is run by Durham University with generous support from Durham Music Shop and Steve Robson.

Durham and Open Composition Competition is a competition in which university students and recent graduates can submit an original composition for judging by a  professional composer. There are two categories in which prizes are available: Open, for students and recent graduates from any UK university excluding Durham and the Durham category for those exclusively from Durham University.

Entries should be original compositions for standard brass band instrumentation of no more than 6 minutes duration. The work must be of an appropriate standard for a 3rd section band and should be either be a concert piece themed around ‘Celebration’ or a concert march.

Submissions, requests for the complete rules and guidelines and any queries should be directed to Durham University Brass Band by emailing brass.band@durham.ac.uk The competition will close on September 1st, 2022.
