NCBB is ‘En Route’ for the Summer

The NYBBGB’s Children’s Band is gearing up for its summer concert at Wells Cathedral later this month. The performance will be the culmination of the band’s residential course which takes place at Taunton School under the direction of Guest Conductor Russell Gray. Russell is an authoritative interpreter of brass band music and leader of Yamaha’s star-studded NEO Brass Ensemble. He has dedicated much of his time to the development of young musicians, conducting the National Youth Brass Bands of Switzerland and Queensland (Australia), as well as being the Artistic Director of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland since 2014.

The Summer concert celebrates music from around the world, and will feature the world première of 'En Route' by Lucy Pankhurst, a musical trail through Birmingham’s rich and diverse heritage. Lucy’s piece will take the band on a journey through Birmingham by canal – celebrating local heritage, landmarks, and community. Traversing the Birmingham Canal Navigations, passing several points of interest on the way, including the Cadbury Factory and infamous Spaghetti Junction before reaching the final destination in the centre of Birmingham itself - Symphony Hall.

CEO Mark Bromley stated, “We're all really looking forward to the Children's band performing together in such a beautiful venue, and after such a long break. In this celebratory concert, The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain Children’s Band will be joined by trombone soloist Karianne Flåtene Nilssen, the newly appointed Principal Trombone with Stavanger Band Norway, and a teacher at Stavanger School of Culture. The programme for this summer concert has an international flavour, featuring music from composers from Australia, Norway, Africa, and Cuba amongst others. I hope to see lots of people there supporting these fantastic children.”

The concert takes place on Friday 29th July at 2pm at Wells Cathedral with tickets available from Eventbrite at a price of £15.82: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-national-youth-brass-band-of-great-britain-childrens-band-in-concert-tickets-348788765587?aff=ebdsoporgprofile
