‘Brassed On!’ at Barnsley’s Big Weekend

 

Black Dyke, Grimethorpe Colliery and WFEL Fairey Band will take part in Barnsley’s 'Big Weekend' on Saturday 16th July. The bands will entertain as part of a 'Brass Festival' contribution to diverse range of attractions taking place throughout the weekend in the town centre.

The town centre will come to life with the sound of music in a new festival featuring the very best in traditional and new brass band sounds. Enjoy the amazing ‘Acid Brass’ with brass versions of classic 90s house anthems performed by the renowned WFEL Fairey Band. Expect furious energy and Balkan sounds from The Baghdaddies and carnival grooves from Bombay Baja – Europe’s leading Indian brass band. 

The famous Black Dyke Band are joined by locals Barnsley Metropolitan Band, young ensembles from Barnsley Music Hub and more mature players from the U3A Old Blowers. You can also expect fun and friendly drum and brass from Flat Cap Brass before a grand finale from the legendary Grimethorpe Colliery Band performing a ‘greatest hits’ set including music they performed for the classic Brassed Off film.
