B&R appoints McElligott as Resident MD

Famous Yorkshire outfit Brighouse & Rastrick has announced the appointment of its new Resident Musical Director Ian McElligott with immediate effect. A proud Yorkshire man with a background in military music, Ian rose to the rank of Major, and upon completion of a particularly successful and rewarding career as a Service musician, he relinquished his final appointment as Director of Music to the Regimental Bands of the Parachute Regiment, and the Band of her Her Majesty’s Coldstream Guards.

Between July 2002 and November 2003 and May through to September 2006 he was the Professional Conductor to the Brighouse and Rastrick Band. In 2007 he was appointed Musical Director to the Sandhurst Band, relinquished only to relocate to York in August, 2015. In January 2016, Ian was offered the exciting position of Resident Musical Director with Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band, an appointment he was thoroughly delighted to accept.

Ian now joins B&R again, ready to start preparations for a busy concert season, and of course help the band with the lead up to the British Open. Commenting on his appointment Ian stated, “So here we are, almost 20-years later and it feels like life has come full circle. This is an appointment I am both delighted and honoured to accept; I look forward to collaborating with Professor David King in preparing you for contests and leading you at the numerous concerts Brighouse & Rastrick undertake annually!”.

A spokesperson for the band commented, “The band are extremely excited to work with Ian and look forward to a long and successful partnership with him at the helm. We have already completed a number of exciting projects together, including two CD recordings, several concerts and a successful outing at Whit Friday.”
