Bold as Brass

Held in association with Brass Bands England, The National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield will host the return of the 'Bold as Brass' contest later this month. The event celebrates the historic link between the industry and brass band music making and takes place on Saturday 25th June.

There are currently six bands taking part: Bedford Town, Dodworth Colliery, Dinnington Colliery, Enderby Concert, Enderby Youth Band and Shirland Miners, with further bands encouraged to enter. Each will take part in a 6-minute march across the museum site before performing their 20-minute set. The audience will have the chance to cast their vote in the 'People's Choice' competition, whilst Brass Foundations Education Specialist, Sheila Allen, will adjudicate the entertainment set. Prizes will be awarded to the overall winner, 'Most Entertaining Band', 'Best Soloist of Group Feature' as well as other prizes

No booking or registering is required, and the National Coal Mining Museum for England will also be open as usual to explore. Limited places are still available for bands to compete in the entertainment section of this event. Please email: events@bbe.org.uk for further information.
