Black Dyke to close 50th Anniversary of Perth Festival of Arts

Under the direction of Music Director Professor Nicholas Childs, the World famous Black Dyke Band will bring the 50th Perth Festival of Arts to an exciting close with a celebratory programme of popular and classical works, alongside cinematic favourites.

Perth Festival of the Arts is an annual 10-12 day May Festival, founded in 1972, and taking place in the City of Perth in Scotland. Now in its 50th year, it is one of the leading independent arts festivals in Scotland. It started as an opera and classical music festival in the early '70s and now covers all art forms including drama, rock, folk, jazz, visual art, literature and comedy. The Festival programmes top international and national artists, as well as supporting young emerging talent in Scotland. The 2022 Festival begins on Wednesday 18th May and runs until Sunday 29th May, with 40 events taking place in venues across the city and in outdoor spaces.

Opening with the Band's signature march ‘Queensbury’ by James Kaye, Black Dyke’s programme will continue with Brand's arrangement of Berlioz' rousing ‘La Corsaire’ overture, a suite from one of the nation's best-loved contemporary works, Karl Jenkins' ‘The Armed Man’ as well as other popular works.

The second half of the concert will see 'Black Dyke at the Movies' with the audience able to look forward to cinematic classics including Harry Potter, James Bond and Pirates of the Caribbean, alongside a number of works showcasing the talents of the Band's soloists. Further highlights will be two works by Composer in Association, Paul Lovatt-Cooper; the powerful ‘Fire in the Blood’ and the beautifully melodic ‘Upon Green Vales’.

The anniversary concert is set to be one of the highlights of this year's Festival and is not to be missed. Festival tickets are on sale from Wednesday 6 April - Tickets £22 (concessions £20). Under 16s £16.50
