Flemish Open Victory for Hauts-de-France

French National Champion, Hauts-de-France, under the steady direction of Luc Vertommen secured victory at the 8th Flemish Open in Mechelen last weekend. Belgian National Champion, Brass Band Willebroek were narrowly beaten into second place, with fellow Belgian challengers Festival Brass Band in third.

Hauts-de-France performed the set-work, 'Goldhorn' by Simon Van Hoecke, their own-choice work to be used at the forthcoming European Championships and Howard Snell's arrangement of Darius Milhaud's 'Brazilieria' from 'Scaramouche'. Commenting on social media the band stated it was “very happy” to have won the title again.

Young Brass Willebroek led by Lode Violet won the B Division with Jugendbrassband Oberösterreich conducted by Karl Geroldinger winning the C Division. Lode Violet made it a conducting 'double' as he also led Brass Band Leest to the D Division victory.
