Beatty MD at Unite the Union
The Union Band are very pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan Beatty as their full time Music Director. Jonathan took on the role on an interim basis in mid-January this year after being asked to conduct the band at the NEMBBA and Yorkshire area championship section contests. The band were very impressed with Jonathan’s approach to rehearsals and also his determination and drive to get the very best out of the band. This was evident very quickly at the NEMBBA contest in February, where the band was triumphant in winning the championship section and then went on to deliver a solid performance of Contest Music at the Yorkshire area, with the band achieving their best result since 2005, maintaining championship section status.
Jonathan has spoken highly about the appointment, "The chance to work with the Unite band, a fabulous group of passionate and talented people, was a super opportunity. Feeling a lovely rapport quickly develop, I was delighted to be offered the full time position. There is a buzz in the bandroom and that comes through on the stage."
Chairperson of the band, Melissa Maddison spoke highly of Jonathan’s appointment, "The band are absolutely delighted with the appointment of Jonathan as our MD and we are very much looking forward to continuing to work with him. He has already made a positive impact on the band both on the contesting scene and also in his preparation and delivery of concerts."
The band are now focussed on preparations for the forthcoming Spring Festival contest in Blackpool. A busy and varied engagement schedule for the band will also provide a great opportunity for Jonathan and the band to explore a range of repertoire and performances together.
