Congratulations Aldbourne

Aldbourne led by MD Glyn Williams took the spoils this weekend in the last of the area qualifiers. The West of England Regional Championships took place at the unusual venue of Cheltenham Race Course, organised by WEBBA and Kapitol Promotions.  Aldbourne secured its first area victory since 1981 with a terrific performance of Heaton’s ‘Contest Music’. Playing as the final competitors of the day, the band impressed adjudicators Robert Childs and Alan Morrison, with Dr Childs stating that it was “a super performance on so many levels”, and were justly rewarded with first place and the all-important National Final invitation. A spokesperson from Aldbourne stated, “West of England Champions for the first time since 1981. Thanks to the band of today and everyone associated with the band through those years! Also, well done to all the bands today after a rough couple of years. We look forward to representing the West of England and the village of Aldbourne at the Royal Albert Hall in October!” Joining Aldbourne in October will be second placed Flowers.

Congratulations are also deserved by lower section winners Bodmin Town, Helston Town, Redruth Town and Bideford Town Band as well as qualifiers Hyde, Gosport Solent Brass, Ocean Brass and Tewkesbury Town.
