Whitburn Wins 2022 Scottish Championships

Congratulations to Whitburn on winning the Championships Section of the 2022 Scottish Championships. Prof. Nicholas Childs retained his winning form fresh from success in Yorkshire, directing the band through an outstanding performance of Heaton’s ‘Contest Music’.  Adjudicators Sandy Smith and Sheona Wade were clearly delighted with the performance awarding Whitburn’s Chris Bradley and Scott Forrest with the Best Cornet and Best Soprano prizes respectively, as well as placing a clear two-point margin between the winners and runners-up Bon-Accord Silver. Bon-Accord Silver will join Whitburn at the Royal Albert Hall in October for the National Finals, with Whitburn also invited to compete at the 2023 European Championships.

Congratulations are also in order for section winners Bo'ness & Carriden, Campbeltown Brass, Kilmarnock and Brass Sounds Inverclyde as well as qualifiers Dalkeith & Monktonhall, Tullis Russell, Arbroath and Stranraer Brass. A review of the weekend’s contesting will appear in the next issue of Brass Band World, and full results can be viewed below.
