Black Dyke win in Yorkshire

Congratulations to Black Dyke on winning the Championships Section of the Yorkshire Regional Contest. Having drawn last the band stayed calm under the direction of Prof. Nicholas Childs and produced a superb performance of Heaton’s contest music. It drew much praise from adjudicators Christopher Wormald and Sheona Wade winning the title and confirming the band’s deserved pre-qualification for the London Finals. Black Dyke’s Richard Marshall was also on top form, deservedly winning the Best Principal Cornet prize. Joining Black Dyke at the Royal Albert Hall in October will be runners-up Hammonds Band, whose principal cornet Kirsty Abbotts also picked up the soloist prize, and third placed Rothwell Temperance.

Congratulations are also in order for section winners Stannington Brass, Meltham & Meltham Mills, Lofthouse 2000 and Oughtibridge as well as qualifiers Marsden Silver, BD1 Brass, Huddersfield & Ripponden Brass and Barnsley Metropolitan. A review of the weekend’s contesting will appear in the next issue of Brass Band World, but full results can be viewed below.
