RCB Springs into Action

River City Brass Returns for a Fabulous Spring Season. This spring, River City Brass returns with concerts in the North Hills, South Hills, Penn Hills, Greensburg, and Oakland. A spokesperson for the band explained, “We bring the music to the people, and our Spring Season is really gonna knock their socks off! Like all arts organizations, we’ve had a rough couple of years, but it’s our 40th anniversary season, and not only are we still here, we’re better than ever! In March, it’s the return of our Celtic Connections concerts, where we combine the music of Ireland, Scotland, and Wales with country, bluegrass, and swing. The underlying idea is that these forms of music are closely related, and hearing them on the same program should make that clear. We’ll be joined onstage by world champion piper Andrew Carlisle and the Carnegie Mellon Pipes and Drums.

“In April, it’s a concert that’s out of this world! With Brass to the Future, we’ll look forward and backward simultaneously in one eclectic program. We’ve been collecting requests from our fans—favourite RCB tunes, and tunes they’ve always wanted us to play—and we’ve gotten some very interesting suggestions! Our April concerts will also feature the debut of two of the four finalists from our first-ever RCB Composers Competition. We’ve received over 60 submissions from an international pool of composers, and we’re going through them with a fine tooth comb, looking for the best of the bunch.

“In May, we’ll present a program called Resilience. These concerts will be a well-deserved victory lap for an organization that has survived and thrived for 40 fabulous years! We’re also celebrating our emergence from the Covid lockdowns and our return to in-person concerts after we were forced to go all-digital last season. We’ll also premiere two more finalists in our composers’ competition and crown a winner.”
