Black Dyke Brass Festival 2022

Black Dyke’s Brass Festival 2022, supported by Geneva Group, promises to be another highlight in the band’s exciting calendar.

Taking place on Sunday 22 May, 2022 at Dewsbury Town Hall and featuring a matinee Gala Concert, the day starts with a cornet Spotlight led by Richard Marshall, in addition to Lower Brass workshops for horns, baritones, euphoniums, trombones and tubas, led by Brett Baker, Siobhan Bates and Dan Thomas. The workshops will start with a warm up, before exploring practice regimes and sight reading, with an opportunity to play in an ensemble too.

The Gala Concert, which commences at 3pm, is always an exciting finale to the day, providing an opportunity to hear Black Dyke performing music for everyone. This year's programme includes A Fantasy of Joy from the band's new Young Composer in Residence, Frederick Schelderup, Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s new work, Above and Beyond and something a little more familiar in the form 'Strictly Black Dyke' - a new selection featuring Irving Berlin's Let’s Face the Music and Dance, Astor Piazzolla's Libertango and Maurice Ravel’s iconic Bolero

The Yorkshire Youth Band will also be featured performing Fredrick Schelderup's descriptive work, New Beginnings. However, the highlight is sure to be the concert's 'Grand Finale' which will see Black Dyke joined by over 100 musicians from the Yorkshire Youth, Armthorpe Elmfield, Delph and Murley bands, performing classics such as Liberty Bell, Breezin’ Down Broadway and 76 Trombones before the curtain is brought down with Thchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.
