Carlton Main Frickley announces new Principal

Seb Williman has been appointed by Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band as its new Principal Cornet player. The 20-year-old, from York, is studying trumpet at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester under the guidance of Roger Webster and Murray Greig.
Seb previously enjoyed a short tenure as bumper-up at Carlton Main before his move to the RNCM, where he spent time with Fairey and Grimethorpe Colliery bands in addition to his ongoing role as principal trumpet of the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra.

Musical director Ian McElligott commented on the appointment, “Seb is another fantastic addition to the wonderful team of young talent we have right across the band. It’s another appointment that matches the band’s ethos of developing the country’s brightest talents. Seb led the cornet section over Christmas, with both playing and leadership beyond his years, and we’re all really excited at what we can achieve together.”

Seb responded, “It’s a huge honour to be able to lead a band with such a rich musical history and wonderful contesting heritage, as well as follow in the footsteps of wonderful performers such as Kirsty Abbotts.” Seb’s first engagement as principal cornet will be in February when Carlton Main links up with John Ward, James Fountain and Pete Moore to support the Clarence Adoo Trust, recording to celebrate the centenary year of Ray Steadman-Allen.
