Ratby to replace Desford at RAH Nationals

Following the announcement from Desford Colliery Band that they would not be taking up their invitation to compete at the Royal Albert Hall Championship Section National Final next month, Kapitol has extended an invitation to Ratby Co-operative Band which has been accepted.

Desford Band Chairman, Peter Smith said that several factors had featured in the decision: "It has been a difficult decision, but one that we believe is correct for the band at this time. We have discussed things extensively with our players with the vast majority feeling that at present Covid-19 as well as financial considerations for individuals and their families must take precedence over our desire to represent the Midlands region at the Albert Hall. Kapitol Promotions have been understanding of our decision, which was taken with a great deal of thought, and we have ensured that some of our players will be able to help other bands out in line with contest rules if they wish. Our best wishes go to all the competitors and we look forward to trying to reclaim the Midlands Regional title in 2022 and returning to the Albert Hall."

Replacing Desford Colliery as the second Midlands regional representative at the Championship Section National Final, following their third placing in the Midlands Area 2020, is the Ratby Co-operative Band who will now make their debut appearance at the event next month. The decision will mean that at present 19 bands will compete at the contest, as no replacement for the cooperation band from Scotland has been announced. A spokesperson for Ratby stated on social media: "The band are delighted to have been in a position to accept, and are ready for the hard work in the time given."
