German brass bands Well Represented

This year's German national renowned musician's competition "Jugend musiziert" took place recently. Thanks to the musicians of the Jena orchestra school KLANGwelt of the brass band association, the event, which traditionally focuses on more classical instruments, was once again enriched with the special sound colours of a brass band.

Johannes Stoll (cornet) and Teresa Fischer (tenor horn), both active musicians in the Jugend Brass Band BlechKLANG and the Brass Band BlechKLANG, were able to convince the jury of their skills with their pre-recorded videos and hold their own in the strong field of participants in their respective categories and age groups. Alexander Richter, KLANGwelt teacher of the two young talents and artistic director of the Brass Band Competence Centre, commented: "I am more than proud of my two students! Especially in view of the significantly more challenging conditions due to Covid, Teresa and Johannes' result cannot be acknowledged highly enough. It is clear proof of the achievements that willpower, stamina and above all flexibility enable. Johannes was able to place directly among the ten best trumpeters in Germany in his age group at his first solo competition. Teresa received - as in 2018 - another 2nd prize at the national level and was thus able to repeat her extraordinary success. Thanks to her, the tenor horn - an exotic instrument in Germany - is now firmly established in the nationwide focus. I am sure that this result will give her a lot of momentum for her studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire!”
