Kapitol Cory Online Championships 2021

In an update about its 2021 Online Brass Band Championships, Cory Band has announced several key developments, including that Kapitol Promotions, presenter of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, is the headline sponsor for the event that will be branded the Kapitol Cory Online Championships – ‘The Battle of the Regions’.

Philip Morris, a director of Kapitol Promotions, commented: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Cory on this innovative project, the primary aim of which is to keep bands playing through the pandemic. With the enforced cancellation of the Regional Championships for 2021, Kapitol Promotions is keen to be able to continue to support the movement at its various levels and, after the incredible success of Cory’s first online competition, which we also supported, we are very pleased to be the main sponsor this time.”

Further section sponsors are announced as: World of Brass; Besson Musical Instruments; Wright and Round Music Publishers; and Thurrock Marching Brass, and
Jonny Bates Music will be sponsoring a Best New Composition or Arrangement Award.
This second edition of the online Championships features a new University Section sponsored by the UniBrass Foundation, the 2021 Chair of which, Voirrey Baker, commented: “Whilst our 2021 contest has unfortunately been postponed, UniBrass has been working hard to find creative ways to engage and support university brass bands. We are very excited to work with Cory to provide this online contest opportunity, welcoming a fantastic range of university brass bands to showcase their talents to a wide audience.”
Broadcasts of the 2021 Championships will be spread over three weekends in February and March, which courtesy of what Cory describes as ‘generous support” from Arts Council Wales, can be viewed free-of-charge on Cory Band’s YouTube channel.
Enthused Cory Band’s Musical Director, Philip Harper: “We are absolutely thrilled at the level of support our new contest has been able to attract – it’s phenomenal. It means that, as well as not charging an entry fee, we didn’t have to turn away any of the bands that entered and we have double the number from last time! We can also continue to broadcast all of these programmes free-to-air, which is to the benefit of brass band fans the world over. We hope that as many people as possible will tune in and share in the achievements of all the bands that have been brave enough to enter.”

Philip Harper concluded: “We’re looking forward to this festival of lockdown banding hugely and have to say a massive ‘thank you’ to all our sponsors and funders for enabling it to happen in a way that has provided free access for everyone.”
