Cory Online Championships

Two fantastic weekends of competitive and entertaining brass band performances have been enjoyed by a Worldwide audience thanks to the innovative Cory Online Championships. Congratulations to America's premier brass band, Fountain City, who claimed the Championship Section title, beating Scottish favourites Whitburn into the runner-up spot. City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) completed the podium places in the top section.

Adjudicators Philip Harper, Tom Hutchinson, Nigel Seaman and Simon Howell enjoyed fifteen scintillating performances, however  the North American and US Open Champions proved unbeatable with a programme that was delivered so professionally, “it sounded as good as a CD”. Led by Dr Joe Parisi the band impressed with a Rocky inspired set that included 'Going the Distance' and 'Gonna Fly Now' followed by flugel solo 'Micky' with 'Eye of the Tiger' providing the finale. As well as being crowned ‘Online Champion of the World’ Fountain City also won accolades for Best Cornets and Best Percussion.

The event supported by Arts Council Wales and other high profile sponsors, was a magnificent success with 68 bands from around the World taking part and congratulations are also owed to Downshire Brass, Lochgelly, Lostrock Hall Memorial and Woodhouse Silver Prize, the winners of their respective sections. Full results can be found below and a full review of the contest will appear in the next issue of BBW.
