Minshall in Charity PBone Windermere Swim

Helen Minshall will take on a unique challenge in aid of the Royal Society of Musicians on Sunday 30th August, when she swims Lake Windermere complete with intermittent PBone serenades! Commenting on the challenge Helen stated, “Musicians all over the UK are facing unprecedented difficulties owing to the Coronavirus Pandemic. My heart goes out to those dedicated musicians who have worked so hard to build their careers, in particular freelance players, many of whom had diaries full of performances stretching months ahead, and now have no work at all. How long will it be until concert halls open their doors again? How long until the West End and shows all over the country re-start? How long until bars, restaurants and even care homes will start to re-book their regular musicians again?

I’m one of the lucky ones as I have regular teaching to rely on, and no mortgage to pay, but many musician friends and colleagues face losing their precious careers as they struggle to pay mortgages, rent and living costs with little hope of any work in the near future. Musicians bring such joy into our lives in so many ways. Social media is full of videos of musicians performing remotely, trying to keep our spirits up at this difficult time.”

Helen has already exceeded her £1,000 target, but donations are still welcome and in a recent social media post she even invites requests from donors for tunes she can play on her PBone as she makes her 10.5mile end to end attempt on Lake Windermere. Helen Concludes, “My two biggest passions in life are music and swimming, and Windermere End to End has been on my bucket list for some time. With the support of the superb team at Triskeli Swims, I hope to achieve this goal on 30th August, and raise as much as possible for the Royal Society of Musicians in the process”
