First Summer Brass Band Camp in Jena

Following the cancellation of the 3rd International Summer Brass Band Camp 2020 the 1st Summer Brass Band Camp is now taking place in Jena. This year's team led by Alexander Richter (MD of Brass Band BlechKLANG) and Katrin Weber (director of the orchestral school KLANGwelt) quickly amended the plans to run a camp located in Jena as an alternative.

The Blasmusikverein Carl Zeiss Jena e.V. presents the Summer Brass Band Camp 2020 in Jena (27 to 30 August, 2020). The camp will comprise four eventful days, during which there will be not only busy rehearsals, but also time for exciting leisure activities and discussions with the teachers and other musicians. This year the organisers have succeeded in attracting two top-class brass band specialists for the workshop, Chris Houlding (UK) and Philippe Bach (CH). The team of lecturers is completed by renowned teachers of the orchestral school KLANGwelt.

This year's rehearsals will take place in two categories, Over 16 years and Under 16 years, with the senior band tackling, ‘Starburst’ by Dan Price and ‘A Tallis Anthem’ by the Dutch composer Geert-Jan Kroon. The younger participants can look forward to a piece composed especially for them entitled, ‘Jungle Dance’ composed by Andrea Hobson (Solo Euphonium of Brass Band BlechKLANG). The work will be premiered at the summer camp with the composer will also at the podium. Alexander Richter commented, “Every effort has been made to ensure that our popular master class can take place in a modified form in 2020, and where there is a will, there is always a way! I am very glad we found a possibility to let this workshop take place. Without our many supporters and partners – like Besson, Denis Wick and many institutions in Jena – this would not have been possible. Thank you very much!”
