Meltham on the Moors
Members of the Meltham & Meltham Mills Band recently took to the moors for an outdoor, socially distanced opportunity to play together. Six players got together in a local quarry on to perform some favourite hymn tunes and marches before being able to return to full rehearsals. Social distancing and health guidelines were fully adhered to and they played without a conductor. Professional photographer Oli Scarff took images from a separate vantage point and the musicians even managed to attract an audience of walkers who listened from afar.
The moment was captured the public’s imagination and images have now featured in The Guardian and Daily Telegraph newspapers in the UK as well as in publications in Germany and Ecuador.
