The Wallace Collection presents 'Tentsmuir'

The Wallace Collection is hosting a Watch Party tonight (Sunday April 26 at 8pm UK time) featuring 'Tentsmuir', the 2nd movement of John Wallace’s ‘Symphony for Brass Band’. 'Tentsmuir' was premiered in November 2016 at the St. Andrew's Festival of Brass, with Marco Blaauw (double-bell trumpet), Alistair MacDonald (live electronics), and The Cooperation Band conducted by Bede Williams. It was recorded by these artists in February 2017 and it is that recording you will hear tonight.

The premiere of the quite massive, hour-long, full Symphony was to take place on Sunday at the RNCM, with Mark O'Keeffe, trumpet soloist, Alistair MacDonald, the RNCM Brass Quintet and Natural trumpet ensemble, both the RNCM and Black Dyke Bands, conducted by Nicholas Childs and James Gourlay (who was also going to play the tuba solos specially written for him in the third and fourth movements).

The Watch Party will include commentary and discussion with John Wallace, Marco Blaauw, Mark O'Keeffe, Alistair MacDonald and Bede Williams on the process and challenges of learning and performing this work, followed by the final recording of 'Tentsmuir'.
