All-Female First in USA

An all-female trumpet ensemble from UCLA in America are breaking new ground as they fly to Pennsylvania  to compete in the semi-final of the National Trumpet Competition. The National Trumpet Competition is a prestigious event that takes place annually, originating in 1992. This competition draws in trumpet players from across the country to compete and work with some of the world’s greatest trumpet players.

Commenting on the appearance a spokesperson for the group, whose vision is ‘to inspire, to motivate, to break the glass ceiling’ stated, “The music industry is extremely male-dominant and there is a significant difference between the ratio of male to female trumpet players. Our goal is to make a difference in our field and to provide the foundation for a community where women are supported and encouraged in the arts. We want to change the stigma about gender roles and brass players, and we hope to inspire and encourage younger female musicians to pursue their dreams.

“In order to highlight this difference and raise awareness for gender equality, we will be the first all-female group to compete in the ensemble division at this competition. This statement will additionally help to represent UCLA as an incredibly diverse, supportive, and forward-thinking establishment.”
