NYBBGB Easter Details Announced

The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain Easter Course will take place from 4th to 11th of April, with the first of two concert performances taking place on Friday 10th April at the Winter Gardens Pavilion, followed by The Dora Stoutzker Hall in the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama on Saturday 11th April. The Easter Course will be led by Guest Conductor, Ray Farr and Guest Soloist, Tom Hutchinson, neither of whom need any introduction to brass band aficionados and both of whom are alumni of the organisation.

As always a first class team of music tutors has been engaged to inspire the young musicians including James Fountain, Mark Wilkinson (cornet), Helen Williams, Owen Farr (flugels and horns), Glyn Williams (baritones and euphoniums), Christopher Jeans (trombones), Les Neish (tubas), Andrea Price (percussion) and Senior Tutor John Maines. The band’s pastoral needs will be equally well catered for by the experienced and caring team of house staff including Lorraine Childs, Beth Gallagher, Jessica Darby, Emma Davies, Danny Stenhouse, Carl Woodman, Sean Chandler and Lee Johnson.

The band also looks forward to hosting visitors and prospective new members at the very popular, free of charge, Open Day, which will be held at Taunton School on Tuesday 7th April. In addition to having the opportunity to audition for both the NCBB and NYBB, visitors will also be treated to a sneak preview of some the music being prepared by the band for its ‘Britain Salutes America’ concert programme. British repertoire for the course will include: Ray Farr’s ‘Ein Feste Berg’, Malcolm Arnold’s ‘English Dances’, ‘Variations’ by Thea Musgrave, ‘Philip Biggs in Memorium’, a new work by former Artistic Director Elgar Howarth in tribute to the band’s late administrator and Derek Bourgeois’ ‘Cornet Concerto’. The band will also be hard at work on pieces with a distinctly more American flavour such as ‘On the Town’ by Leonard Bernstein, Frank Zappa’s ‘Dog Breath Variations’, ‘Jubilance’ by Williams Himes, ‘Short Ride in a Fast Machine’ by John Adams and Eric Whitacre’s ‘Ghost Train’.

Tickets for the end of course concerts can be purchased via the venue box offices at a cost of £15 and £10 concessions using the links below:
