Amy Paterson joins Black Dyke

Amy Paterson has joined Black Dyke on the second horn position. She is a first year student studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and comes from Campbeltown, Scotland. Amy is currently Scottish Solo Champion and Principal Horn with the National Youth Band of Scotland.

Nick Childs, Director of Music commented “Following the band’s advertisement for a new horn player we had a large number of applicants from as far afield as the USA and Hong Kong!  Eight of the applicants where short-listed where they had the opportunity of attending a Black Dyke rehearsal.  Can I take this opportunity of thanking everyone who applied.”

Amy said “I am really excited about joining such a prestigious and well known band, and I hope I can contribute and develop as a player with the guidance of Nick Childs and the Black Dyke Band.”

Amy’s first official concert was at Huddersfield Town Hall where Black Dyke will also have the opportunity of saying farewell to the outgoing horn player Sammy Latus, who is leaving due to family commitments, a beautiful baby girl, Olivia.
