Superbrass Weekend lined up at RWCMD

The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama will host a Spectacular weekend of Super Brass from 8-10 November. The event kicks off at 5.30pm in the foyer with AMSERJAZZTIME in a brass special featuring Gordon Campbell and a host of RWCMD jazz musicians. The Friday night showcase event in the Dora Stoutzker Hall features the RWCMD Brass Band, under the direction of Dr. Robert Childs and Paul Fisher presenting the concert ‘Walking with Heroes’. The programme will include a feast of music from Karl Jenkins to Louis Armstrong with world renowned guest soloist Mike Lovatt taking centre stage.

There will be a full day of brass workshops from 10.30am to 4pm on Saturday, which will be open to junior and senior brass players. To apply for this free admission event players should contact junior.conservatoire@rwcmd.ac.uk

The weekend concludes on Sunday with a rare chance to hear the super group Superbrass, some of the finest brass and percussionists on the professional music scene. The uplifting programme of brass favourites will begin at 2pm in the Dora Stoutzker Hall. Audiences are then invited to join the RWCMD Tuba Ensemble for ‘Beer, Brass and Bratwurst’ in a rousing after-party, bringing this super brass weekend to a fitting close.

Tickets for the RWCMD Brass Band concert ‘Walking with Heroes’ are priced at £14 (£12 concessions) and Superbrass tickets are priced at £15 (£13 concessions). Alternatively a ‘Super Ticket’ is available for both performances in the Hall for £25 (£22 concessions), if both tickets are purchased in the same transaction, subject to availability.
